Acknowledging a problem is always the first step to fixing it.
As my personal awareness grows with how big the threat on our planet is with trash, I’m irritated with the way I have been living my entire life. I live in Oklahoma so I figured my trash, which goes into the trash bin, means all my trash ends up in the land fill. Not the ocean. However, I am finding that is actually a horrible way to treat things as well. So even if none of my plastic straws end up harming a single sea turtle, I have to admit that my laziness is effecting the world around me.
Imagine, thousands of years from now, archeologists coming across a landfill, not to find amazing discoveries we can be proud of or the fantastic way we were “ahead of our time” but just fossils or the remainders of the trash we tried to cover up. Not even cool trash either but things like razors and laundry soap dispensers. I guess I could feel guilty about everything I personally have contributed but I am choosing to move forward and not dwell on the millions of diapers, tampons, or razors I have personally added to the problem.
SO my goal is to get myself from lazy and using readily available products to being educated and managing daily essentials on purpose. I am sharing my journey for two reasons.
Reason #1: To keep myself accountable that I am making an effort to show my kids there is a better way
Reason hashtag 2: To share my knowledge with how attainable this really is.
It can’t be that hard………
